Labour Law Symbosium

Inaugural Symposium on Labour and Employment Law.

On the 28th of June 2007 the Center for International Legal Studies (www.cils.net) organized a Symbosium on Labour and Employment Law in Salzburg, Austria. It was the first event to b e organized by CILS on Labour and Employment Law and was attended by a number of Labour and Employment Law experts from the USA and Europe. Sesscions covered a wide range of employment law-related topics, including terms of employment, outsourcing, employer-employee dispute resolution, employee IP rights, discrimination, redundancy, occupational hazards, compensation for work-related injury, business immigration et. al.

christophoros christophiChristophoros Christophi , managing partner of Christophoros Christophi & Associates, attended the seminar as a Labour Law specialist from Cyprus. Besides participating in the seminar sessions, he also presented the topic: " Termination of Employment because of Redundancy: The Situation in the 25 Member States of the European Union." It was a comparative study of the redundancy regime in the 25 Member States of the European Union besides Bulgaria and Romania. Co-panelits were Ms. Andreea Ionescu who talked about "Termination of Employment Agreements" in Romania and Professor Carol D. Rasnic from the USA whose topic was "Firing or Sacking: The American Employment-at-Will Rule with Some European Law Comparisons".

The seminar was a great opportunity for Labour Law lawyers coming from different jurisdictions to come together and discuss international trends and developments in Labour Law. The participants hope to join again next year for the second seminar that will be held somewhere in Europe.
